I had looked for this book for years and had begun to believe it would never be available again. I would check now and then to see if a copy could be had for less than $250, with no success. So when I checked the other day and saw an option to purchase it for the Kindle, I thought I was dreaming for a moment. I loaded it onto my Kindle and spent a very enjoyable three hours rereading the book. It was just as much fun as it was when I was nine years old, and I just turned 55! Thank you so much for making this classic story available again.

I have been looking for a copy of this book since grade school. I love this book!!!!!
Thank you everyone forpostig that Opalina is alive and well on . I dot understrunderstrand why this book can't be reprinted in hard copy or even paperback because, as you can tell from others readers, it was one of the primary books from childhood for a whole generation of readers. Its a shame young readers of today won't get the paper book experience we did with Opaline, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making it available on !
This was a book I read when I was a kid. It took a long time to buy a copy, and I'm so glad to now have it as a edition!
As a child, I checked this book out of the library every chance I got. Once I remember the librarian, Ms. Reese, saying I needed to give someone else a chance to read it. Now I own the version, and a friend bought a used copy that we both delight in reading. The frame story is marvelous in itself--a ghost cat regaling children with the stories of her many lives--but each story within that frame is equally delightful with memorable and believable characters, and realistic dilemmas. Thank you for making this available again! It will never be outdated.
Whoever managed to get this book onto ....thank you from the bottom of my heart. I LOVE this book, and it has been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. I remember checking it out over and over and over from the school library, and the public library...and it was always at the top of any and all Christmas lists. I don't even know how many letters I wrote to Santa asking for a copy of this. I never got it (

So here I am, 44 years old, in happy tears atm because I now finally have my book.

I don't know how I missed this book in Junior High (1967). I'm just so pleased I found it now. It's great reading for any age. Miss Bacon brought two centuries of Americana youth alive with her descriptions of the personalities who inhabited an elegant old house. The stories are relayed to us by the ever observant ghost of the cat Opalina, a V.I.P. (Very Important Presence) The various adventures and calamities of the families who lived in the house made this an unputdownable book as Opalina tells of her nine "lives". I'd give this more stars if I could.
The one and only time I read this charming story was back in the 3rd grade in the early 70s. The classroom 'library' had it at the time (and books shuffled between classrooms) and I managed to check it out... once. I have never seen a physical copy ever again. Having got a new e-reader a few months back I was anxious to purchase this Long Lost Treasure. The story, though a bit quaint, is as charming and engrossing as I remember. I highly recommend it for children of all ages.
However, there is an unfortunate down-side it needs a full run back thru a professional editor. There are an alarming number of typos (and I am only half way through) misspellings/wrong word (for example (LOC 1611) Part instead of Pat, warner instead of warmer), words run together, improper word splitting, and doubled words. Another problem is with the illustrations and their captions; they are often split between different 'pages' rather than together on the same 'page'. I hope that with the pending release of the paperback next month that an updated/corrected ebook copy will be put out. For the record I am reading this on the latest version of the Paperwhite.
