This was a VERY short but sweet story about Roan, a gentleman who comes home from the war scarred and spurned by society and Addy, his best friend's little sister who has secretly always loved him, and who Roan will discover, isn't so little anymore...It's actually a decent story but it was simply way too short and felt more like I was reading a few chapters plucked out of a novel. Both Roan, Addy, and her brother Jack were likable characters and the plot had huge potential, however, there just wasn't enough time for development. I have always enjoyed Ms. Templeton's writing though, and this was no exception. You'll only need about a half hour or so to read and if you can get it for free I'd say give it a try, otherwise I'm not sure I'd pay even a dollar since its over with before you know it. Overall not bad, but due to the limited page number it just didn't feel complete, although if it were revised and expanded upon I'm sure it would be great!

Little Miss Independent edition by JA Templeton Romance eBooks Reviews
Little Miss Independent was a wonderful distraction from the simpering misses that often show up in Regency romances. Addy knows her own mind and her own heart. She is kind and understanding where others are not. (As often is the case in the world) I was moved by her feelings for Roan.
Roan was injured during an attack on his ship, leaving his body burned. His outward appearances marring his impressively handsome features. Of course, society finds him grotesque and somewhat a monster. He is captivated by Addy's lack of shock and fear of his wounds. He quickly sees that she doesn't see them, but rather the real him.
This is a novella. Too short? I don't think so. Yes, it could have been drawn out and made into a much larger story, but the basic principles and romance is there. It was lovely. Very appealing and well written. Congrats!
I really enjoyed this story if it wasn't for the drastic ending. It left me feeling deprived, especially after the sensual realizations of their attraction for one another. Roan's growing admiration of the now mature Addy is played so perfectly in this story, and then BAM! It's over. He's older, world-wise, so respectful of her and fiercely attracted to her...not to mention her older brother's trusted friend and someone who seems to have passions running deep...and so does she! The romantic possibilities between them are tangible and yet we're given nothing in the way of a taste, despite the delicious build-up. This fade-to-black was painful, leaving a bad taste in my mouth for reading anything else by this author.
I just think about what could've been, had we been given one more chapter and the passion they could've realized given their history - such a let down for an otherwise excellent story! I give it 3 stars for that reason.
Addy has been in love with her brother's bff for years. She is the only one who is able to look past his scars and see the man he is. And he starts to see the woman she's become, he really, really likes what he sees. Will their happily ever after (HEA) come so easily?
The bad Yes, the HEA comes so easily. Like way too easily to be believable. It was way too convenient for comfort, the way it was written. It felt more like lust to me on the hero's part, or maybe desperation because everyone else is disgusted with his scars. This would have been better as a full-blown novel than a novella. Also, there are a few things that seem out of place like the heroine asking the hero for a dance (waaaay too forward for a debutante in the 1800's) and the hero buying a dress for the heroine (waaaaay to familiar, which is something only a man does for family or mistresses).
The good The narrative does offer great insight into the thoughts and feelings of the characters, but that is not enough to dispel the feeling that things are way too convenient for comfort.
RECOMMENDED FOR LIGHT, FAST READING.
I have one issue with this story, it was not long enough. It was however touching and tugged at my heart strings. The heroine, Addy, has been secretly in love with the hero, Roan, since forever. Roan went to fight in the Napoleonic Wars. He suffered an injury to his face and right side. Roan has lost his fiancee`, his mistress and his wounds are talked about. Roan meets Addy at a ball and realizes that she has grown up. Roan is impressed with the way she treats him and is interested. There are problems, Addy's brother, her boyfriend, Roan's scars, and his feelings about her. This book has sparked my interest in this author's books. I look forward to reading more like this one by her.
As always, J. A. Templeton writes her stories and characters beautifully- there is no surprise there. I understand that this is meant to be a short story but this one seems extra short.
I hope one day that J. A. Templeton revisits this story and decides that it needs to be a full length book. The storyline was great but it ended so quickly that I realized I started to love the characters well after I had finished the story. It was that quick.
Roan is hurt during his service in the military which leaves him with a scarred face and body. Once a highly sought out catch, he now finds himself the victim of ridicule and pity.
Addy has always loved her brothers best friend and see no scars or markings, only the man she has loved for most of her life.
When the two meet again after a long five year gap, the attraction is mutual and won't be denied.
Now the question becomes, will their love for each other prevail?
