I admit, I'm occasionally one to judge a book by its cover. And while the cover of Me, Cinderella? is indeed beautiful and eye-catching, I assumed at first glance that it wouldn't be "my type" of book. It turned out I was incredibly wrong and I'm so glad that I took the chance of reading this book!

While I was expecting cliches and trite fairytale rehashing coupled with the expected sex scenes. What I got was: a brilliant female lead who is by no means a Mary Sue but instead an interesting and humble young woman who is a gifted maths student and has more on her mind than romance, a slow and realistically developing romance between two consenting adults that bond over shared ancestry and shared passion for mathematics, and very slight (yet very clever) blink-and-you'll-miss-them allusions to a classic love story.

I am floored that I'd never heard of this book before stumbling upon it by chance, it certainly deserves plenty of recognition for its lovely writing and the uniqueness of its plot and characters. So yes, so far this year Me, Cinderella? is the one book I've read that will stay with me as a reminder to be careful not to judge books by their covers, genres, or even my first assumptions.

Me Cinderella? A New Adult Romance Novel edition by Aubrey Rose Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

First of all, I'd like to say thank you to Miss Aubrey Rose.

This book was a delight and truly refreshing in its approach and the way the characters dance between self denial, remorse and the hope for healing.

Bravo--well done.

Brynn is our heroine and she does not start off well with our hero, Eliot.  Despite her feelings to the contrary, she pushes him away in their first encounter by lying about her own name.

She has her reasons due to a devastating loss in her life, but so does Eliot whose soul is just as tortured (if not more so) for a similar reason.

Neither of them feel safe or deserving of another's love...neither of them can deny the attraction that pulls them together and then breaks them apart like a pair of magnets that turn every which way but the one direction that will allow them both the healing they so desperately need.

And the telling of this tale between these two lost souls is done in such a lovely, gentle manner that I can't recommend it enough.

The story itself deserves to be read, but even more so for the voice of the author who knows how to tell a story with a soft touch that reminds us of our own mothers' voices telling us a bedtime story.

We are safe here.  This author will not lead us astray.

My only hope is that Aubrey Rose plans on more for Brynn and Eliot.  Please....
I really wanted to love this book. And the first half really had me hooked. Great writing, great characters, just enough back story to draw me in and keep me reading, just enough explanation with the mathematics and music pieces to be interesting, a couple mysteries thrown in...great start!

And then...it just...dragged. And then rushed! They go back and forth and back and forth...kissing...we can't be together...kissing...I can't let go of my past...kissing...SIGH. Then all of a sudden, there is a SHOCKING incident (slight spoiler I have a really hard time believing this piece. It's on the grounds of a "castle" and the guy is going to take advantage of someone on the property? Just assuming no one else is around? when it's one of the most powerful families grounds he is on? BS). And then...we go from kissing to COMPLETION. In a few pages. Umm...excuse me? There was no passion besides a kiss and then we have a detailed lovers scene. And then...book is over. Oh, except not really. Uh...what just happened?!?!?

Like some of the other reviews, I have to say I was shocked when I discovered it was a series. What!?! We had basic resolution...a "happy" ending...but never get the resolution from the mystery of what happened to her mom. Oh, you have to read the next book for that. What?! But what else can you do with the two main characters? I'm not sure I can take any more angst and inner turmoil from these two. I want to know what happened but I still don't think I'll be reading the next book. Maybe just the reviews in the hopes that someone posts a spoiler and saves me the time and money.

This book could have been a 4.5 if it was ONE book instead of two. Maybe the author will learn from this mistake.
As the title suggests, this is a new adult spin on the classic Cinderella story. The amount of pathos in this story had me going through half a box of tissues before I hit the end (I'm an easy crier when reading). If I was rating it purely on the level of emotional read alone, it'd give it 5-stars. But here's the thing - the rest of it comes in as fair to midland. For as much feeling as it pulled from me as a reader, the characters didn't really have a connection with each other. I'm all for insta-love, but this wasn't even that. The first time the heroine sees the hero, she feels sympathy, but nothing else. It's not until much later we're supposed to believe that it was more than that. Also, there were a lot of things that were never properly explained with the heroine's family situation and the tragedies that had befallen both of the main characters. Maybe they'll come out in the 2nd book, I don't know. Overall, I liked the story, but found it to be lacking depth in both storyline and characterization. And while it did have an HEA, it wasn't enough to make up for the other 95% of sadness, not for me.
