I love a good fantasy story, and this one did not disappoint. There is magic, dragons, elves, battles, love, friendship, and a quest. All of those fun little elements that you might look for in a light reading fantasy tale.

I enjoyed the characters and how they developed throughout the story. Kale and Thomas began a great journey, and gradually their party increased. A surprising little elf named Neelan and a battle strong knight named Illadar add to the adventure. Each character offers their own piece of this little story and they do so very well. It is a fun read, with fun characters and the dynamic they share.
While this book is only the first in a series, it can be read independently. Of course the end of the book leaves you with a couple questions promised to be answered in further reading, but if you have the will power to let that go, then you can just stop with the first book if you so desired. Personally, I plan on looking for the next and continuing the adventure with Kale, Thomas, Neelan, and Illadar. I would like to see how the party fares and what will come of the plans they have made.
It is a light and easy read. There is nothing too technical or detailed in the story. While it is entertaining, it does so in a very simple way. You know the goal. You know the characters. You follow their adventure. I enjoyed that aspect of this story. So often, writers include so many side stories and technical type jargon that the actual meat of the tale gets a little lost. I am glad to say that this story remained simple yet engaging.
Overall, I am very pleased with what I read, and I can’t wait to read the next!

The premise of the story is pretty straightforward
Jedah, the general of the King's armies, is waging a war against the dragons to revenge the wrongs a dragon inflicted upon him long ago. He is successful in exterminating all but one of them.
The last of the dragon-kind, Kale, is saved by his old friend, wizard Thomas, somewhat against Kale's wishes.
The story that follows describes adventures and quests of Kale and his band of friends.

It's a pretty imaginative tale with some unexpected twists to the story and a detailed and gradual development of the characters. The story carefully builds the world populated with dragons, knights, wizards, orcs, monsters, and elves. That does not, however, prevents the story from moving forward at a pretty brisk pace.

There are some humorous moments in the book that I did appreciate. The author does appear to have a sense of humor as well as a very good imagination. The language is somewhat peculiar - some modern expressions are mixed with the olden ways of speaking. It is not, however, detrimental to the story.

This book is geared towards the fantasy fans who like to follow a detailed build-up of the story and the surrounding world. If you fall into that category, read the sample and if it's your cup of tea, get the book.
I've had the please of meeting Aya Knight at a few cons in the Southeast, and I finally got a chance to sit down and read The Chronicles of Kale. The Author's enthusiasm for her work and characters really comes through in the novel - Kale's journey from Dragon to Human (in the vein of the Prince and the Pauper) is very thoughtful and well rounded. This would be a great book for a nerdy/scifi/fantasy inclined young adult - teaching lessons about understanding and humility, while still rooted in the realm of fantasy and magic. Just like all great stories, Aya uses Kale to really give some insight into coming of age, and what it's like to see life on the other side of the tracks. The conclusion to the book is action packed (and no, I'm not going to give any spoilers, READ THE BOOK!). It's definitely a good easy read that I would recommend anyone picking up. I received this book at a discount for review purposes.
If you take a little bit of magic from the Harry Potter series and a little bit of imagination from the Hobbit series throw in some paranormal with dragons then you've got this book.
This book was amazing! The author built a wonderful world of sorcery, magic, dragons, elves and new creatures to create this wonderful book series. Kale aka the last Dragon Firehart and his sorcerer friend Thomas go on a journey (quest) that leads them to meeting Neela a runaway elf, illdar a defecting solider from the evil army ran by General Jedah & many more. Together they learn that not everyone is the same, not every one is evil and to not judge someone based upon ones appearance.
This is a fantastic fantasy book that holds life lessons weaved in the story. Like in the Hobbit our unlikely group faces many challenges and dangers to get to the end, and like the Hobbit one part of the quest is finished in this book but our hero's have many more quest to finish before all is revealed and peace can be found.
I highly recommend this book!! 4.5 stars
